Speaking Notes – Official Opening of La Maison Martin-Matte – Pavillon Patrice-Villeneuve and les Immeubles H.S.F. (phase 2) – November 7, 2016 (Québec City)

Thank you, and good morning everyone.

I would like to thank you for inviting me to be here with you today to celebrate the official opening of an important new housing project in our community.

My first words are to thank Martin Matte. I want to congratulate you for everything you do for this cause that you hold dear.

Your efforts are remarkable. Well done!

I would also like to acknowledge the residents of the new building on Boulevard de l’Ormière who are among our special guests today.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, affordable housing and helping middle-class families and those working hard to join them are priorities for the Government of Canada.

We believe that all Canadians deserve housing that is safe, adequate and affordable. We know that housing plays a role in the lives of our families and communities.

The building we are opening today is a great example of this.

La Maison Martin-Matte – Pavillon Patrice-Villeneuve provides 30 units of affordable housing for people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury or are living with a physical disability.

Until now, several of the residents had been living in places that were poorly or not at all suited to their needs.

This new housing significantly improves their quality of life.

Under the same roof, we also find phase 2 of Immeubles H.S.F., which provides 45 units of affordable housing for low-income families.

I am pleased that our government has provided some $2.5 million to support these new units.

All that is made possible thanks to partnerships between the public and private sectors.

Even more importantly, this investment by the Government of Canada was made in partnership with the Government of Quebec, the City of Québec, the Martin-Matte Foundation, the group Milieu de vie TCC, and Immeubles H.S.F., which all contributed to the success of this great development.

It is by coming together that we can have the tools and resources needed to address the pressing housing needs of our families.

Thanks again for giving me the honour of being here with you today, and congratulations to everyone, especially the residents, for this wonderful new project that will be a great place to live.

Thank you.
